We’re Working to Make Shreveport-Bossier Great!

Times Media is not only located in the Shreveport-Bossier community, it is an integral part of it. That is why we believe the role of Times Media involves more than growing businesses and keeping the community informed. It involves continually working to make this community a healthier, happier and safer place for those who reside and visit here. The Times Media Network truly values the partnerships that we have with nonprofit organizations in our community, and we work hard to help them in their efforts.

Every year, Times Media provides thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to assist nonprofit organizations through three main channels:

Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett. The Gannett Foundation supports nonprofit activities in Vermont and other Gannett influenced communities. In 2012, the Gannett Foundation made grants and matched employee donations to nonprofits for a total of $6.9 million.

Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA WEEKEND and its carrier newspapers, including the The Shreveport Times. Each year, Times Media employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need.

The Joy Fund: The Times’ Joy Fund is an annual Christmas drive that got its formal start more than 100 years ago on December 5.  On that day, The Times announced in a front-page story a coordinated effort to build on the success of what was formerly known as the "Good Fellows" campaign.  Each year our goal is to raise $100,000 in contributions that are then awarded to local nonprofit organizations.  The Joy Fund is an institution whose help in recent years has touched agencies as diverse as The Salvation Army, Volunteers of America, the Bossier and Caddo councils on aging, Joy Home for Boys, Johnny Gray Jones Regional Youth Shelter, Community Renewal International, Providence House and Helping Hands Community Services.
